pictures of my own boys
A couple of shots and the manual settings to go with them. Oh and when I am photographing my own boys you can bet that we first have to have a conversation about how these pictures are important to mommy and there is also some bribery involved. :)
More detailed teaching soon. I’ve been working hard on a fun project to help you learn how to navigate your confusing cameras that I’ll be sharing soon. :)

Isn’t this little guy above a goofball? I love it! :)
Your photos are always sooo beautiful!! Is it possible you could add the distance you are from your subject? i found my 3.5 f stop to make the person slightly behind the front or even side person a bit out of focus? I’ve seen other individuals post that they shoot open at 1.8f yet all of the individuals are in focus?
Another question – last i promise. lol. But, i was curious, do you ever use artificial lighting such as speedlites? i am interested in buying one but haven’t figured out how to fire one on a stand yet!
thank you anisa.
–sure in the 1st photo i would guess i was about 8 feet away, in the 2nd photo maybe 5 feet away, then in the 3rd photo i was right in front of him (2 feet?) with my macro lens.
–the reason both of my boys are in focus at 3.5 or 4.0 is due to the depth of field. they are on a similar plane so it works. you should check out my new online workshop i’m offering. we go over all this aperture stuff in great detail. :)
–also i hardly ever use external flashes or artificial light sources unless i’m shooting a wedding and need extra light at the reception or somewhere
hope that helps! :)
