Day twelve: Bath bubbles and freckles. (I love his freckles.)

Manual camera settings and the why behind them:
ISO – 2000 (in the bathroom, nighttime, windows closed, lights on)
aperture – F 2.8 (opened up pretty wide as I needed light)
shutter speed – 1/125 (as slow as I felt comfortable with handheld)
distance from subject (rough estimate) – close, only a couple feet from his face
focal point – his eyeball that was a tad closer to me
lens – 100mm 2.8L macro lens
editing – then converted to black and white in lightroom

summer, summer, summertime

Summertime shots by the pool in the bright sun can be tricky. The water is reflective and makes everything a bit brighter. So, watch that shutter speed. Here’s a shot by the pool in the afternoon in full sun and my manual settings to go with it.

ISO – 125 (low is best in bright sun)
aperture – F 2.8 (my preference for a single child shot)
shutter speed – 1/1250 second (it’s bright out so you need the shutter speed to be fast for proper exposure
lens – 50mm 1.2
